Maurette Brown Clark
Stellar Award Winner Maurette Brown Clark is one of gospel music's sweethearts. Originally from Long Island, New York, Maurette began her singing career with her family group, The Brown Singers. Throughout her formative years, she continued singing with choirs, groups, as well as studying classical piano. Maurette's first CD, entitled 'How I Feel', was released in 1998 on Verity Records. This CD featured the radio friendly, "Breaking of Day". For this work, she received the Stellar Award for Best New Artist in 1999. Her second CD, 'By His Grace', was released in 2002 on AIR Records, and featured her popular rendition of the praise and worship anthem, "I Just Want To Praise You." This CD as well received a Gospel Music Workshop of America Gospel Excellence Award and two Stellar Award nominations. She was also nominated for a Dove Award for her part in a remake of the Donnie McClurkin classic, "Stand", featuring Darryl Coley, Marvin Sapp and Helen Baylor. Maurette's latest CD, entitled 'The Dream' is due to be released in 2007 with great anticipation for its success. This is her first live concert recording and it truly captures the essence of her heart for God. You can hear Maurette's co-production work on the theme song, "Down in the Hole", for HBO's The Wire (Season 4). She happily maintains her status as a member of Richard Smallwood's choir, Vision, who also have a project due to be released in the upcoming months. This singer/songwriter/producer/ musician/wife/mom knows that with God, nothing is impossible and her life and music are a testimony to that fact.
Nubian Gents
Nubian Gents is a Christian ministry which utilizes stepping, dancing, singing, and even acting as our vehicles of expressing the Love of Jesus Christ.
We are a team, captivated not by the religiosity of Christianity, but by its reality and relevance to the world in which we live.
We are warriors of praise and leaders of worship equipped by God with talents, skills and great abilities which we use to glorify Him and promulgate His kingdom.
A step team is a group of people who, with synchronized stomping feet, clapping hands, and body movements, create complicated beats, which is sometimes accompanied by music.
1994 was the year Lamont O’Neil received the release to actualize a glimpse of a vision which God had planted in his heart. This glimpse first manifested itself in the form of an extra-curricular activity, namely the Junior High School 231 Step Team in Queens, NY. Little did he know, God had bigger plans. As Mr. O’Neil’s faith grew, so did the revelation that God had ordained this “team” for a much greater domain than a junior high school. Hence, this extracurricular activity evolved into a ministry. But the change from the Junior High School 231 Step Team to the Nubian Gents Step Ministry was more than a nominal one. God has equipped this organization with a support network of financial, prayer and administrative partners which provide the resources needed to fulfill this call. As an organization and ministry, the Nubian Gents exists solely because God has purposed our existence.
El Trio de hoy
El Trio De Hoy is one of the most unique contemporary gospel bands of our time, having shared the stage with gospel greats such as Bill Gaither, Andre Crouch, Michael W. Smith, Yolanda Adams, Israel and New Breed, Smokie Norfol, and Darlene Zschech.
With their amazing guitars, awesome harmony, outstanding bass player, and solid drummer, they have been able to reach all generations and break language barriers with their high energy style and anointed sound.
El Trio De Hoy consist of five members: Freddie Velez, Jesus (kuzo) Velez, Alex (Mr. Bassman) Moran, Omar Salas and Orlando (the truck) Gonzalez. After traveling nation wid and abroad for 8 years, there is still a fever to continue to take the Lord's message through music and song.
El Trio De Hoy will continue to take the Lords message of hope through music to all those whom open their hearts to them.
Da' Truth
Hip Hop. Not many words conjure up the gamut of images and emotions as this art form. Some view it as an inherently evil and unredeemable culture; others see it as the modern-day “Pax Romana” upon which the Gospel can travel. While the debate rages, Emanuel Lee Lambert, Jr. a/k/a Da' T.R.U.T.H. has emerged as an urban missionary to those influenced by Hip Hop culture. This Cross Movement protégé is on a mission “to see the appetites of our generation change and their affections pried away from the things of this world, while growing for the things of God.”
Better known to his family and friends as Manny, Da' T.R.U.T.H. was presented the Gospel at the age of five when he received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. As a teen, he was a talented drummer who listened to contemporary Christian music. A self-described “old soul,” he never found rap music appealing though he was attracted to aspects of the culture. “I had no interest in rap music. As a matter of fact, I was disenchanted with the whole idea of rap,” says Da' T.R.U.T.H. Providence would have it that one day he and his friend Tyrone (Twyse) began free-styling for fun when he discovered that he actually possessed a talent for rhyming. Da' T.R.U.T.H. co-founded the Christian Hip Hop group NIV and at the age of 19 he acquired the moniker of T.R.U.T.H., launching his ministry as an urban missionary.
The young man who fell in love with the Hip Hop culture is now seeing that love requited. Most recently, the graduate of Philadelphia Biblical University and The Institute of Jewish Studies received a 2007 Stellar Award for Rap/Hip Hop Gospel CD of the Year for THE FAITH. Earlier in 2006, he was a featured artist on Kirk Franklin’s HERO Tour along with singing duo Mary Mary and at MegaFest where he opened services for both Kirk Franklin and Bishop T.D. Jakes. He has also ministered before audiences of 100,000+ at events such as Creation Fest and other major rallies—Rap Fest, Flavor Fest, Big Exo Day (Australia), etc. Even before the 2004 release of his first album, he enjoyed a record-breaking eighteen month stint at #1 on MP3.com’s Christian Hip Hop chart. That acclaim—coupled with his standout appearances on Out of Eden’s “Spirit Moves Remix” and The Cross Movement’s smash single “The Light”—paved the way for him to become the fastest-selling, solo Christian Hip Hop artist with the release of his debut album MOMENT OF TRUTH.
Da’ T.R.U.T.H. has been featured on two top-10 singles of the Radio and Records (R&R) Christian Rhythmic Chart—label-mates The Ambassador’s “Feels Good” and Flame’s “LADIES.” His media highlights include: Vibe, The Source, Sister2Sister and JET magazines. He has also been profiled in Charisma, CCM, New Man, U-Zone and a myriad of Christian and Gospel media outlets. His television appearances include “BET News”—aired during “106 & Park,” BET’s “Lift Every Voice,” TBN’s “Praise the Lord,” INSP’s “Steelroots” and “Mixx Master’s Lounge,” and Word Network’s “Bobby Jones Gospel.” He is also a featured artist in Holy Hip Hop: The Movie—Christopher Martin’s urban Christian film.
Inspired by Cassie and Rachel—the two young ladies martyred at the Columbine shooting in 1999—his sophomore effort is entitled THE FAITH. In it, Da' T.R.U.T.H. sets out to expose what he terms as the “hyper-individualism” pervasive in the American church. “In Scripture, the emphasis is on ‘the’ faith—not merely ‘a’ faith. Here, it is all about ‘a’ personal faith which has been relegated to a means to personal comfort. Whereas, ‘the’ faith is a common body of beliefs that govern how we think, our influence and how we behave. However, we’ve become so ‘I’ centered that it has become common to ignore what God has said to all of us and biblical absolute truth has been obscured” THE FAITH bring absolute truth back into focus.
Provocative tracks such as “The Portrait (Da Vinci Code Snapshots)” and “Whose Team?” will challenge believers and non-believers alike to question the image of the Christ that they have embraced. Da' T.R.U.T.H. believes that modern culture depicts two Christs. One is the Christ of the “culture” and the other is the Christ of the “Kingdom.” He expounds on this thought by saying, “The Christ of the culture—heard about in Kanye West’s song ‘Jesus Walks’—doesn't make any demands but walks with you irrespective of your allegiances. The Christ of the Kingdom requires that you walk with Him in accordance with His standards.” This is the Christ he talks about in THE FAITH.
Musically, The Faith sets a new standard in Christ-centered Hip Hop while delivering the lyrical style and substance that has become Da' T.R.U.T.H.’s signature. He puts his stamp on the album by co-producing and even playing keyboards and drums on “Go,” “Turn You Around,” “2 is Better” and “Whose Team?” This contribution underscores his belief that “artistry should never be placed on the altar for the sake of the message—instead it should heighten its potency.”
